Most of them who are blogging think that getting backlinks is all that is important. But this is not completely right. I don’t mean backlinks are of no use when compared to internal links. Internal links are something which is in our hand and you need not wait for any webmaster to approve your internal links. It is also easy and benefits your blog, so why don`t we concentrate on it first.
Ok let me tell you why it is important, I will start with an intro then some SEO Tips.
What Actually Internal linking Mean?
Inshort: Link pointing to other page of the same blog/site is internal link.
Here is sample code for Slashsquare to show internal link
<a href=”http://slashsquare.org/samplepage”>anchor text</a>
SEO Benefits From Internal Linkings
Not only backlinks but internal links also benefits you to get improve your SERPs. Below I have mentioned few SEO benefits that you get through free internal links.
# Internal links makes search engine`s work easy
It makes sure that all your pages are indexed by search engines. You might have seen that when you search your URL in Google then you see those URLs which are linked more are shown above other links for your webpage.
Well in short it improves crawling rate of your blog.
# Increase Page Rank
Linking to internal as dofollow links will pass some page rank of that page, this will ensure that you get good page rank for your internal pages also thus resulting in high domain page rank.
# Ranking for number of keywords increases
Using different keyword phrases for internal linking will ensure that you will rank for those keyword phrases, thus increasing number of keywords ranking.
Should Internal links Have rel=”nofollow”?
Use rel=”dofollow” for internal links to pass link juice to those pages and this helps to increase page rank of that internal link. If you don’t want to pass any page rank or link juice to any internal link like privacy policy then you can use rel=”nofollow”.
Nofollow links tells search engines not to pass link juice to that website. Different search engines treat nofollow link in different ways. Like Google will visit nofollow link it will not pass any page rank for that link.
If you want a link to be nofollow, then
<a href=”http://slashsquare.org” rel=”nofollow”>Slashsquare</a>
How Many Links Are Too Many?
While Google recommends “not to use more than 100 links in a web page”, Matt cutts in his interview with SEOmoz said that “the number of links to be under 100 is in the technical guideline section, not the quality guidelines section. That means we’re not going to remove a page if you have 101 or 102 links on the page. Think of this more as a rule of thumb.”
So this means that using more than 100 links for a webpage will not penalize your site but it is recommended for technical benefit. As Google used to index 100kb of a webpage.
Conclusion
Hope now you got to know the importance of internal links. Every link in your post should be providing more information about the topic you are discussing here on the post.

Internal links from a web of links in our site and the backlinks juice is shared to every individual page of the site. It even works as an SEO component of the site. It makes the Google bot easy to crawl through the pages and to index the pages well.

rel=”dofollow” does not exist or certainly has absolutely no purpose. Links are followed by default!

I have a good backbone is imperative. I think it is good to do a content audit and figure out what your best performing pages are. I use them as my internal links to drive deeper engagement.

Very good demonstration of the Importance of Linking, I would Like to stress the importance of internal linking, especially to old posts. The bots usually crawl the first 300 (or 100 or all depending what SE) links and therefore internal linking is useful for re crawling older relevant posts that usually get a small boost out of it.

Really nice tip and something always ignored now a days.. I really agree backlinks are important but then Internal links are important as well..
Besides I feel the best benefit of internal links that too inside a post or content is that it helps reduce the bounce rate of visitors which also is one of the main factors Google and other search engines use to rank websites..

I doubt a bit on the 100kb limit… Got any sources for that, preferably from google?
Oh and, the author here isn't knowledgeable on this subject at all! There is no such thing as DOFOLLOW for LINKS.
Either, you have nofollow, which doesn't get indexed, or, nothing, which does get indexed.
Again, there are grammatical mistakes, sentence forming mistakes, and one sentence doesn't even make sense! Let me know once you look into it, I'll try and find some spots you've missed.

Great blog, I also pay a lot of attention to internal links on my blog, I use plugin that automates the process. Whenever the keyword is used in blog post, the plugin will link from that word to the page I prefer. This helped me rank higher on Google, thanks for sharing and informing others.
Puneet
I know the internal links are so important but I never get clear idea about how it is so important. You made it so easy to understand. Thanks Moin for nice post.
Khaja moin
Hi Puneet thanks and my glad 🙂 it helped you!

I usualy use internal-links when I know that I had written an article on that particular subject. Plus, it decreases my bounce rate.
I saw that you guys are kind of "specialist" in Google's indexing methods. You know stuff like "the page should be around 100kb", "you should publish article with more than 250 words".. stuff like this.
My apologies but this is not really, 300 words won't make me read your blog, neither your internal links or your 100kb. Focus on the content, write it down as a true blogger. Stop with all this SEO crap. If I had visited your blog and I didn't liked what I was reading, you can be no 1 in searches, I won't enter your 'shitty' blog again.
Damn I'm starting to think I should organize a protest:)
Khaja moin
Hi buddy,
To increase traffic and decrease bounce rate, it is recommended to give complete information not just 250 words.
And about SEO, bro if you don`t focus on SEO how come others know about your blog? And here we are not telling blogging or content is not important. Hope you got us right now!
thanks for commenting!

My point is that too many people focus way to much on SEO and too little on their actual job, which is "actual blogging". Don't get me wrong, it's a great article.
Khaja moin
Yes I agree with you that most of them are just writing posts because they want some content and traffic..not from blogging way.
Amit Shaw
Hi Khaja,
Its really important not only for Passing juice to another pages but also its decrease the bounce rate which is the best part of adding internal links on any article.
Thanks for this tips on internal links.
Khaja moin
Hello Amit,

I think you should make correction here: "If you want a link to be dofollow" 🙂
