yes regarding news purpose its good.
I usually use Press Release distribution services from large companies like pr.com and prlog.com because it ensures that your press releases really land in front some real life journalists rather than just press-release directories.
but I think they are getting bad as well. 🙁
PR was once a very good one, now it has become spam, there are thousands of sites spamming google with same PR again and again.. pissed off

You are right. Press release should be written more of news and announcement rather than sources.
And writing a press release should also be in formal and professional language, writing it casually like normal article will give bad impression on readers.
