HOW TO: Create Google Plus Widget For Your Blog

Big fan of Google+? Unfortunately they don’t provide a widget for your blog, but we got our eye on a site which provides fortunately. 😀 Though we can generate Google+ profile buttons, this one is quite difficult.

WidgPlus, a third party application for Google+ allows you to create a widget for your Google+ account and you can use the embed code on your blogs or websites. The widget allows you to show your latest Google Plus posts on your blog or site. Therefore its a great opportunity to get in touch with your visitors!

Go to WidgPlus and enter your Google+ ID. It is nothing but the group of numbers present in your profile URL.

Create Android Apps Without Any Coding Skills

If you are an Android phone user, you must have dabbled with quite a number of applications by now. Did you know you too can create an application like the ones you are using presently? Since I have almost zero knowledge of computer languages, I will be telling you here how you can create an application without any coding skills (having coding skills is always a plus since you can go deep inside the generic code and work out wonders).

First have a basic layout of what your application will have. Text, images, videos, RSS feeds, custom HTML, whatever you plan to have in your application, get it ready before you start working on your application. For my test application, I chose recipes. From the web I copied a few recipes, pictures and videos from YouTube.

The platform that I used to create my application is Buzztouch. V 1.4 is the default version that you get to create your application when you sign-up. If you join the early adopter program, they also give you access to v 1.5, but it is only for iPhone apps.

So v1.4 is where you will need to create your android application. Go to “Create New App”.  Give a name to your application and agree to the terms. Next put in the icon for your app, image for your app and a small introduction text that explains what your app intends to do.

Application Control Panel

Now you come to the most important part – the content of your app. Click on “Manage this apps menus and screens” and you will get an option to add custom text, picture, video from Youtube, streaming video, RSS feeds and many more things. Choose the content on the basis of availability. To see how each form of content looks, I will advise to use as many forms as possible. You can create as many screens as you want.

After you are done, go to your app control panel and click on “Download the source code for this app”. It asks you whether you want the source code for iPhone app or Android app. Choose the latter. Let it download. Copy the zip file to a location of your choice and unzip it in a folder. Delete the zip file.

There is a file called Read Me in this folder. Open it to learn about the next set of instructions.

Now go to http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html and follow all the instructions in the exact sequence as mentioned there – first download Eclipse, next Android SDK, next ADT Plugin for Eclipse, finally add platforms and other components. You may find some hiccups and this may take time if you have a slow connection. Keep trying and you will finally get to it.

Once you are done with all the steps, it’s time to come back to Eclipse that we use to compile your application. Rejoice as you are very close to your application.

Click on the “new” just below “file” in the upper navigation. It will open a “Select a Wizard” pop-up. Click on Android and then Android Project and click Next. It opens a small box called New Android Project that wants you to name your project. Give it some name. Next click on “Create project from existing source” and browse the folder where you have your application files that you unzipped in one of the past steps. Now in “Build Target” check on the following combination:  Google APIs-Google Inc – Platform 1.6 – AP 4. Click on it. Next click on Finish as there is nothing more clickable there.

New Android Project

It will appear in the Package Explorer area of Eclipse. Check that it doesn’t show any error in the console area.

Next click on Run Button on the upper navigation and it opens a small box. Click on Android development there and click Next. It opens an Android simulator. Follow the instructions and lo it opens your application. See how each of your screens turns out.

First Applcation

Next you can go ahead to publish your own application. I have yet to do that. Go to http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/index.html and it will tell you how the rest of the tasks have to be done.

So tell me, was any coding involved in creation of the app? Do tell me how helpful you found this article. Also if you are able to publish your app in the market, share it with others and let others get encouraged.

5 Useful Tips To Create Unique & Authoritative Blog

After determining who the target audience for your blog is, you now need to think of how you can differentiate yourself from the competition and offer unique value. How will you grab the attention of readers who could eventually become your loyal clients or customers?

The following are steps you can take towards developing an authoritative and distinct voice in your field of expertise.

1. Assess your competition

When identifying your audience, you are very likely to come across your competition. With commercial blogging becoming increasingly popular, there could be a number of competitors with a presence in your niche. You need to look again to make sure you don’t miss other competitors, including blogs that are industry focused and complementary.

Once you exhaustively identify the players in your field, evaluate their methods. Can you identify the unique approach of each competitor?

2. Use lateral thinking

Many people think that unconventional creativity is the key to being unique. Though lateral thinking is important for helping you stand out, you need a logical justification for it. Lateral thinking does not mean thinking of an idea that has nothing to do with the needs of your prospective customer and audience. It is creative thinking that provides a logical link within the framework of your subject matter.

3. Identify the difference

What new perspective are your competitors not addressing? Usually, you will have a better picture of something other bloggers are touching, but not maximizing on. They are locked in a particular theme, or are too busy creating the blog to realize it. You have the advantage of having an outside view. What is not obvious to them could be your opportunity for a new approach.

Another technique is to ignore the way things are being done presently in your niche. Get ideas from the trends in other fields and come up with your own unique blogging approaches.

4. Uphold your credibility

Often, the great new approach we come up with pushes us out of our comfort zone. However, there are situations where our credibility can be compromised. When writing about a relatively new area in your field presents an opportunity, but you need to do your homework. Though blogging allows for ‘learning on the job’, make sure you don’t hide behind arrogance or false confidence.

5. Communicate the value

Many times, people fail to communicate their distinct benefits to readers. No matter how clear you think your values are, you need to directly communicate what makes you, your blog and your business unique. More specifically, you need to make it clear how the reader will benefit from that uniqueness.

Create Audio Playlist From YouTube Videos

If you are a guy like me, you will use YouTube for listening, almost, any song. YouTube Feather mode helps to stream videos faster. But I rarely watch the videos, I just listen to the songs, so I don’t want the videos to be there. Now this service not only helps you to remove those videos, but also creates a playlist.

SongSprite, a collaborative playlist creator helps you here. It lets you create playlists by extracting audio from YouTube videos. This web service helps you to save bandwidth, avoids minimizing windows every time, stream faster on a slow connection and not to forget, create a playlist so that you can listen to your favorite songs in your desired order.

I made a list of popular YouTube videos and most disliked YouTube videos for trying this web app.

YouTube Audio Playlist

All you have to do is to grab the URL of your favorite YouTube video song, interview or speech. Go to SongSprite, paste the URL in the bar and click Add.

All these videos are added above their audio player. You can also drag and drop the videos to rearrange the order. You will find an unique URL below the player to share your playlist with your friends.

I believe this simple web app avoids you to download YouTube videos and you can save time. You can listen to YouTube videos as if they were just songs. Add as many tracks as you like, or invite friends to join you in building up a legendary playlist.

HOW TO: Create An Event On MySpace

MySpace was the most popular social networking site in the United States during 2006. Still many people use it even after Facebook and Twitter buzz. MySpace has lots of cool features which are not present on Facebook.

MySpace Events is as popular as Facebook Events, and I was suggested to make this simple ‘HOW TO’ tutorial for some online awareness groups. Creating an Event on MySpace is quite simple and here is the procedure for it. 🙂

#1 – Sign in to your MySpace profile first.

#2 – Select ‘Events’ from the top navbar or go to use this link.

MySpace Events

#3 – Now you will have two options to create events. One is Custom Event, which has several details and another one is Quick Event, which has very few details to enter. I suggest ‘Custom Event’.

Custom Event - MySpace

#4 – Now you need to enter all the details related to your event. For example, location, date and time, host, description and so on.

MySpace Event Details

You have several options like limiting total number of guests, enforce an age limit, and more.

After completing everything, select ‘Save and Continue’ and you will get a mini-preview of your event. That’s all your event is created now.

You can add guests by selecting friends, if you haven’t, and select invites to them. Cheers.

HOW TO: Create & Manage An Event On Slideshare

SlideshareSlideShare is an online slide hosting service. Users can upload files in the following file formats: PowerPoint, PDF, or OpenOffice presentations. You can create an event to collect all the presentations that were delivered (or will be delivered) at a talk, conference or seminar.

SlideShare is undoubtedly the best way to get your slides out there on the web, so that your ideas can be found and shared by a wide audience. Events can be used for building up buzz, sending invites, archiving content, actively discussing topics etc.

Events are similar to groups, with additional features like location, date & time. Earlier we saw ‘HOW TO’ create events using LinkedIn and Facebook.

Easy Steps For Creating A Torrent File

Recently my friend wanted to get some files from my system. They were about 100-150 MB. We both know it will take years to send these files through Yahoo! Messenger, MSN or any other service. File Transfer really sucks there. I never thought about creating a torrent file. Many people know how to download a torrent, but they don’t know how to create them. The latter is very easy like the former. Many prefer this type of transferring because you can share this with many people. Let us discuss the steps for creating the smart way for transferring files. Let it be a couple of pictures, a farewell day video etc.

Note :

  • The tracker identifies the network location of each client either uploading or downloading the P2P file associated with a torrent. It notifies the client of the P2P file location (that is normally on a different, remote server).
  • A private tracker is a tracker which requires registration before you can use this service. Such trackers usually have a high amount of seeds, because users get banned if their ratio is too low.
