This article is not made as an intention for accessing blocked websites in Colleges, Schools and even in Offices. All comes under Ethical Hacking. Facebook, Orkut, MySpace… these are some of the websites that are usually blocked. Even in my college this happens. But trust me, these are quite lame protection. Below are some of the ways to unblock and access the websites that are blocked. I wrote the steps in simple way, hope it is helpful for ethical purposes. Earlier we saw how to block websites without using any software.
1. Redirect the Site using Short URL
You can convert your blocked URL into a short URL, so that it may help you bypass the settings.
Some of the free services for shortening your URL are TinyURL, MooURL and SnipURL. You can also start your own URL shortening site like we did.
2. Use Google Cache Link
Search Engines like Google and Yahoo! provide cached links in their search results. You can make use of it for accessing blocked websites, because these cached pages are stored in the search engine itself. Type the blocked website URL in Google Search and click the Cached link to access the cached copy of that website.
3. Use IP Address instead of URL
Some of the people and software use the URL of the website for blocking and if you use the IP address of the website here, it may allow you to bypass the settings and you can access that blocked site. You can find the IP address of a website in two ways. In local computer, go to command prompt and type ping domainname.com and it will display the IP address. You can also find it through online resources like Whats My IP.
4. Use Proxy Websites
You can try the millions of Proxy websites available in the Internet for accessing blocked sites. They allow you to use their proxy or domain to browse other sites as anonymous. I wrote an article regarding the list of proxies commonly used.
- 50 Proxy Websites To Access Blocked Websites
5. Translate the Website
Some online translation services allows us to convert or translate a website/ blog from one language to another and display the site in the results in their own pages. You can try Google Translate, AltaVista BabelFish for translating your site.
This is just a small list, there are plenty of ways to get around blocked websites, the internet is full of opportunities.
Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, these tips and tricks are not posted for the intention for unblocking blocked websites in Schools, colleges and many places. Don’t try to breach the rules and regulations. Try to use these for Security purposes indeed. Try to be Smart and Ethical.
I use Hide My IP with which I browse the Internet totally anonymously and unblock restricted sites.
Just download and install Hotspot Shield Free VPN. I am using the same from past few years to access facebook at my office. π
Download it from here: http://www.hotspotshield.com
These are all nice tricks, but if you`re looking for a permanent fix to unblocking sites, your best bet is a VPN service, like http://www.sunvpn.com/Β Unlike a proxy, a VPN will also encrypt your traffic.
I can use proxys to view a website, but I actually want to be able to log into the sites and post comments which the free proxies never let me do. how do I log into a website that blocked my IP? I'm not at work so its not violating work or school policy. just want to post comments to blogs.
You forgot mentioning VPN services. I found VPN more reliable than proxies or other ways to unblock sites. I lived in China for about 8 months. During that time the proxies I was using always got blocked, but the VPN services never got restricted (at least while I was there, I know Witopia had some problems in the past with that). I used http://www.witopia.net/ and http://www.highspeedvpn.com/. Witopia was cheaper, but highspeedvpn seemed to work better most of the time.
Cheers,
In North India, BSNL has blocked Youtube. So, I’ve tried most of these but using a proxy server is what has helped me every time.

Hi,
Port direction is another technique one can employ to access blocked websites Port redirection involves accepting a connection on a particular port and redirecting it to another IP address/port. Have a look at “Fpipe” a popular tool for the Windows platform.
