Since you have already heard all of the great things that link building can do for your websites, I really don’t think it is necessary to cover any of that. While it is a great move, we tend to lose sight into the best ways to approach it. Site owners these days are getting offers all over the world by people like me who are looking to share an article on their site. With all of the talk of Guest Blogging‘s perks, it really shouldn’t be much of a secret anymore into what the primary motive is for a guest blogger – Links!
The problem is that guest bloggers are still trying to become too sneaky with their links. If you’re contributing an article for the sake of a link back, then it is extremely important to tell the site owner. This is more of an applicable approach when the guidelines of the site have not been stated. While it is ironic, you’ll see this for sites that have a higher PR and flow.
This is mostly due to the fact that high PR sites contain content that is exclusive to the writers who are associated with that site. Once in a while though, if you can give great content, the editor/owner of the site might be open to your submission. The ideal situation is writing content so good, that the owner doesn’t care what you link to (within taste, mind you).
It’s About Establishing Relationships
Incase you forgot, site owners are people too. It is an unfortunate situation that guest bloggers and site owners can’t really talk face to face. If that were the case, the relationship would easily become more enhanced, which in turn opens up to easier submissions. But these interactions often happen on opposite sides of the world, and sometimes idealism can not interact with realism.
I have several sites that I regularly contribute to, and it really all just started out like any other link building campaign. The site owner knows what you want to do, but despite the cut and dry process, the least that you can do is treat the owner with as much respect as possible.
This means that if the owner is kind enough to put up your article, then make sure that you are regularly commenting on what people are saying about your work. This not only keeps the interest in the subject going (which keeps your link exposed), but also shows the owner that you didn’t just show up and leave. Maintaining these interactions could mean further invites for you to continue writing. Search Engine Land and SEOmoz articles frequently talk about this point.
Owners put a lot of time into taking care of the content that gets thrown at them all of the time. If you want to maintain relationships, then make a point to consistently come back to see how they are doing with their site. If they are looking for more from you, keep it coming even if there is no link involved. It’s a barrier to entry, but once you’re there, that is how you establish yourself in the blogosphere. Just make sure you’re writing good content.

I haven’t been able to do any guest blogging yet…but I honestly didn’t even think about making sure you’re responding to the comments in the thread! Makes sense! Thanks for the tip!
If you are a blogger and if you are anonymous in the world of blogging, it is of no use. One must build relationship with co-bloggers. And this can be done by commenting and Guest posting. Guest posting not only increases relation but also drives traffic and provides the site with backlinks.
I knew that Blogging and Enhanced Transparency But Guest posts also plays a vital role in the life of blogging. I Think more engagement of quality sites.
Great tips, Sophia. I think I should open my blog up for guest posting too, what do you think? So that like-minded bloggers can share their tips and tricks on my blog.
Alternatively, maybe I should also accept a couple of writers to help me write for the website. 🙂
Your Nice Offer, We already appreciate your site and need some backlinks from your valuable site in return for a Link from guest post. Sure Guest blogging supports both blog author and guest poster.
Guest blogging is very much in trend now. This is also because it helps generate a lot of links back to their sites and aids them in earning a good amount of cash for their written content. However, I agree to your post completely and very well understand the motive behind it. Thanks for sharing such an informative post.
The trend is causal where people are going to have to get more creative with their writing. Thanks Thomas.
Quality guest post is very important for our blogging career. I have also every day got. 2 -3 Guest post on my blog and inbox but some time they are not Well for my blog. So I rejected it
but thanks you sharing this articles really nice 🙂
very nice post, this is what i need to start guest posts. You have explained it very well. According to me building good relations with blog owners and writers is useful. Responding to the comments is also a main point to mention in guest blogging.
I want some tips about writing posts from you, can you please give me some suggestions.
Please go to my blog and tell something about my posts.
That’s true – the more time and energy put into one page carries a lot of benefits in the long run. I’ll take a look at your posts and give some feedback. Thanks!
High quality sites get a lot of requests for guest articles and they can choose from the best articles. So, a cheesy article that was written in 10 minutes surely won’t make it onto a quality blog. In other words, it takes time and effort to research and write a good enough article that will be accepted by a quality blog.
Simply put – it’s quality over quantity. Matt Cutts has repeatedly said that a bunch of 300-400 word articles with one link will probably not be looked at much as compared to a well-thought out article.
I got tired of guest post requests, so I changed my policy to “write something cool on your site, email me, and I’ll link it do-follow if I agree”. Thus far, no takers despite still getting 5-10 “conventional” guest post requests that didn’t read the policy. Which makes me think either all the requests are automated or there’s something slightly nefarious with affiliate links going on.
I can openly admit that I at times have failed to read all of the guidelines for some sites, and as should be justified, I pay the price for it. I like the idea that you have, and am interested to see if it works out for you in the long run.
My only explanation is that guest bloggers move fast, and try to get out as much as they can. But that practice needs to stop, since Google is catching on more and more to it.
Hi Sophia. I really loved your article.
I myself receive a lot of guest posts everyday but I don’t post all of them as all don’t have the quality. I want quality and so I’ve mentioned this in my guidelines. Talking about the guidelines, we should be strict here.
Again, when I guest post on some blog I don’t just think about backlinks but think of building good relation with the blog owner, the guest authors there and the commentators over there… 🙂
