Website Authority – Tips By Matt Cutts

Earlier I shared Matt Cutts’s video regarding whether to keep Tag Cloud or not.

Now here we are going to discuss about the tips shared by Matt Cutts regarding “Website Authority”.

White Hat vs. Black Hat

In this video, Matt Cutts answers the following question:

How does a website can compete for good positioning in Google, using only White Hat techniques in industries dominated by spammers if Google takes months to respond to a complaint of SPAM, and reacts when there are already other spam websites with new Black Hat techniques, in the first positions of Google?

How can a website compete using only white hat techniques? Let’s look at the response from Matt Cutts, after the video:

SEO is about communication and establishing a website with search engines. The aim is to position a website in the first organic results of search engines when searching for keywords that are relevant to this website in order to get qualified traffic and free of those search engines.

There are techniques for such communication and the relationship with search engines and Google itself provides a set of guidelines for webmasters . SEO techniques that confirm to these guidelines are And White Hat SEO techniques that violate these recommendations are Black Hat Moreover that some Black Hat techniques are ethically and other acts are illegal and unlawful acts by criminal relevance.

White Hat Vs Black Hat

Difference in White Hat vs. Black Hat Websites

A website that uses a technique of SEO Black Hat, we call SPAM website is designed to last for weeks or months. Google learns the technique, changes its algorithm to cancel it and penalizes all websites that use this technique Black Hat This discovery may take days, weeks or months.  But it is inevitable.

Thus, the operator of SPAM websites already know that each site has a relatively short life cycle. When the spammer has a well positioned website is already working on his successor, who will use a technique different from Black Hat and innovative. All SPAM websites are born already condemned to a sudden death.

A website that uses White Hat SEO techniques is a project that is not condemned to such a sudden death. Thus, a website that meets the guidelines of Google has a lifetime of potentially much more than a spam website.

That is the advantage that a webmaster must exploit to win the spammers that use Black Hat techniques.

Website Authority

A website that publishes quality content and relevant to their visitors and that can promote such content, gains visibility on the Internet. And it will get the recognition that Google is an authority in their subject area. As this recognition of authority grows along with Google, the website will get more and better positioning in the organic results of Google, in its subject area.

As the website has a short life cycle, the medium term, an authority that will achieve a SPAM website will never be able to achieve. SPAM website does not have enough life time to achieve such authority. Until that authority because it involves a journey natural, no shortcuts …

The reputation that we are an authority on certain matters is how the progression in their studies. And take a Graduate or a Graduate. And then a graduate. And, if you continue to study, can still get a Masters and a PhD. And its progression increases their authority in the field you are studying. A website that uses Black Hat techniques can not live long enough to take a graduate or undergraduate.

The concept of authority of a website (domain authority) is a concept related to the concept of trust of a website (domain trust). In the case of trust, the analysis is more qualitative. It is important to know who is the link to the website and to whom you link to the website.  In the case of authority, there is a more quantitative analysis, based on statistical information and looking for the quantity and diversity of backlinks pointing to a website, for the time evolution of backlinks and the diversity of the website pages that get backlinks.

These two concepts do not live apart. You have to trust Google and need to gain authority, that the visibility of its content can be reached.

And the result is something as simple as that. A website with authority may publish a page about a subject and get a good short-term positioning in Google, without any external backlink to this page. And a website without authority may publish a page on the same subject, get dozens of backlinks to that page and be positioned below the website with authority. Sometimes, a license shall publish dozens of articles on a particular matter, but your opinion has no weight and has no followers, does not alter the evolution of ideas on the subject. Appears a PhD who publishes a single article on the same subject, and this view becomes the dominant view. The PhD is an authority on the matter. The license is not an authority on the matter.

If it is true that in the short term, a website that uses White Hat techniques may not be able to compete with websites that use Black Hat techniques in the medium and long term, it has all the conditions to win any SPAM website.

SPAM Abuse Of Websites That Use Techniques Black Hat

Google encourages webmasters in Webmaster Tools.

If in a given market, there are too many websites to use Black Hat techniques, it is legitimate for a Google webmaster report.  Who uses techniques Black Hat is not competing honestly, just do not deserve respect or reserve.

The complaint of SPAM is IMPORTANT. What happens when you search a specific keyword and can not find a single website quality? Only find trash.  Frustrated and lose some trust in Google. If there is much spam in Google’s organic results, Google users will lower their expectations of finding the information they use when searching Google and will seek such information offline or on Twitter or Facebook. If you bet on Google for traffic for your website, you have every interest in keeping the organic results clean of SPAM. You want Google users trust the Google search and use Google, because they do not use, who will receive less traffic from Google is you …

And, if you report spam websites that compete with your website, you get rid of an unfair competition. Who cheat, deserves to be expelled from the game.

SEO Marketing

The SEO is also marketing. If you publish quality content and is not able to promote that content, no one will link to your content. Nobody will read your content. Your website will not achieve the visibility necessary for Google to know that you exist.

A recurring idea is about SEO: Content is KING. Content is King It is partly true, If you write quality content that is relevant, which is searched, your website is able to obtain authority from Google. Because people who read quality content, sharing this information, references its website, writes a tweet or an article on its content with a link to your website.  And this social conversation, links to your website, make your website visible to Google.

But if you’re not able to promote your content, who will read? Who will share and referenced?

A strategy that Matt Cutts addressed to compete with SPAM sites is to conquer the authority, without competing directly with the spam websites. For example, in the commercial market, very competitive, with too many spam websites, it is a good idea to find a market related, but no less competitive, these spam websites. This strategy is valid for any competitive market, even those who do not enjoy the company of SPAM websites. Then follow the path needed to win reputation with Google Website authoritarian in this thematic area. Finally, moving towards market competition more competitive.

For example, the services market psychology.  A website can gain authority to publish quality content and free about psychology. The psychologist can begin by writing a blog. The market for information on psychology is not as competitive as the market for psychology. Also because, if the psychologist to write with some frequency, you get relevant traffic from keywords consist of 3 or 4 words, which are much less competitive keywords that one or two words. And after your website gain authority, may enter the market of psychology services, with another competitive ability, because that authority gained in the blog.

Do not assess whether competition in Google for psychology services is very fierce or not. It has some Google AdWords ads. For a psychologist who also wants to be a webmaster, I am sure that the keywords most important in terms of traffic, are not easy and justify the use of this technique. The idea is to compete in the positioning of the organic results of keywords are less competitive until the website conquer authority in your subject area ..Then proceed to related keywords and more competitive.

The technique applies to a market dominated by spammers or any very competitive market. But SEO is not magic. If you want magic, go to the dark side … Use Black Hat techniques But do not forget that when you die, you’ll find Matt Cutts working as a doorman at the Paradise …

Page Rank Vs SERP

The much debated question is on a site without any content can get high Page Rank or not?  Amazingly, answer is yes, a blank site with no content, you can get a high Page Rank. To be able to increase the Page Rank  just have to have backlinks from high ranking.

pagerank vs serp

The Page Rank is determined by backlinks, and not by what is written on your page, or the Page Rank is determined by Google as a vote for your site. The more votes you get from sites with high Page Rank Your Page Rank will also increase. Despite that, which takes visitors to your website is good content and not Page Rank.

The SERP (Search Engine Result Page) or a page of search results is the web page that a search engine returns with the result of a search.

In other words, when you search Google the term Tech News and the search result Google gives you a return of “http://news.cnet.com/” in the first position on a page with 7.42 million sites then that is the page ranking is great.

Have a higher rating on a page has nothing to do with high ranking in searches. Only a quality site with relevant content will be positioned on top of our researches.

Only quality relevant backlinks will give you a high page ranking.

So do not think that having follow a link on a site with Page Rank 6 will put your website on the first page of Google, the most that will happen is to increase Page Ranking Pank and get a few visits that will not get even 30 seconds on your site.  It does nothing for you in the search results.

Here a question arises, how do I benefit from a website with high Page Rank?

Simple, have relevant content, so you will attract high-quality sites, people tend to trust sites with high rankings, they see you as an authority site and thus attract many visitors for the quality of your site.

Conclusion

Both Page and Rating Page Rank is important, but only Rating Page takes you to the top of the SERP and bring the traffic you need for your site.

And to get a good position to make a good SEO On Page , choose and make good use of keywords and wait for the result on the SERP.

Google Search Rankings Considers Site Speed

Google Webmaster ToolsGoogle officially announced that they are now considering the loading speed of a site in search rankings. Site speed reflects how quickly a website responds to web requests.

Post excerpts from Official Google Webmaster Central Blog,

While site speed is a new signal, it doesn’t carry as much weight as the relevance of a page. Currently, fewer than 1% of search queries are affected by the site speed signal in our implementation and the signal for site speed only applies for visitors searching in English on Google.com at this point.

11 Super Cool Myths of Link Building Busted

Blogs are always good for Search Engine Optimization. The reality is, blogs are simple software tools and that’s what you get by using good SEO plugins. Good keyword, categorization and content management are a start, but blogs are not much of a SEO asset unless they attract good back links. Here are some myths & facets about link building:

Linking

#1 Myth – “Build it and traffic will come”

Not many Businesses\Bloggers that start blogs have the patience to create great content and wait for others to find that content all on their own as a linking strategy. Without clicking on a link or finding it on a search engine, how will others find your blog? Content is King but only if you promote it in the right way.

Links from relevant, credible sources balanced with on: page keyword optimization make it easier for search engines to find, index and sort blog posts in search results.

If there’s an expectation for a company blog to rank well in search results, be sure to consider some of the following link building tactics:

#2 Myth – Create content and they will link

Fact : Create great content worth linking to.

No matter how many tactics you find here and elsewhere, there simply is no substitute for creating content that others may find useful. Look at blog posts that already rank well in search results and notice their structure, quantity of words and word placement in the URL and title of the posts.

#3 Myth – All Backlinks are Good

Fact : Conduct Backlink analysis

Try to find out who is linking to competitor sites that are not linking to yours. Ask sites linking to multiple competitors to link to yours as well. If another web site or blog is already linking to multiple competitors, there is a chance they’ll link to your blog as well. It’s called the mutual understanding game. 🙂

#4 Myth – Commenting more and interacting with your blog users is Good

Fact : Make useful comments BUT don’t overdo it

Comments should always be useful, don’t spam your comments. Always be aware that overdoing anything is BAD. Google recently said that overdoing comments is a bad thing and would penalize such blogs…

#5 Myth – Using many social bookmarks will bring many hits

Fact : Encourage social bookmarks BUT don’t overdo it (Again)

I’ve seen sites with so many social bookmarking buttons with little content in it. Show links popular services like Digg, Delicious and Mixx in the blog post template code so they are visible for blog readers to use. Some social bookmarking services will make a copy of what you bookmark or a static web page of the bookmark including a do follow link back to the source (your blog). Always choose what social bookmark to use or use only popular social bookmarking buttons only.

#6 Myth – Posting articles only on one blog will make you famous

Fact : Guest write, get popular and get listed

‘Pen is mightier than a sword’ was an old saying for writers. In this age of technology it’s changed to ‘Content is mightier than anything else in the bloggers’ world. In the course of getting to know blogs that already rank well on the keyword phrases you’re targeting, you may notice that they often accept guest blog posts from others.

Contact the blog owner and suggest a compelling post that would be first and foremost, valuable to their readers. If it makes sense editorially to link from within the guest post to your own blog, be sure to use relevant keywords as the link text. Remember you are always welcome to write here! 😉

Try getting listed on other blogger’s blogrolls. It never hurts to ask another blog that you’re active with to see if they’d consider adding your blog to their blogroll or curated lists of blogs. Maybe you are friends with some good bloggers, you can ask them to add your site to their blogroll (don’t be shy now 🙂 )!

#7 Myth – Google, Yahoo and Bing will submit my info to directories

Fact : Submit to RSS and Blog directories.

Many directory links have no follow links or are not visited by a large volume of people, but making sure your blog and RSS feed are included in niche categories and collections of blogs can be a positive signal to search engines as well as to long tail users.

Many bloggers that aggregate large lists of topically specific blogs will cultivate blog directories as a easy way to find blogs on similar topics. If your blog isn’t on the niche list in those situations, you won’t be included.

#8 Myth – I’m blogging now let’s keep that a secret

Fact : Be sure to include your blog URL in profiles and bios on social media sites.

Google follows a pattern called social media graph, which basically is what the public web is made up of linked pages that represent both documents and people. Google Search helps to make this information more accessible and useful. While most social media sites that allow users to add links to their profiles add no follow to the links, there are many that do not. Public profile links on LinkedIn and YouTube channels for example, are good links. Rather than focus on registering with 300+ sites using Know ‘em, just make sure that of the social media profiles you do set up include a link back to your blog.

#9 Myth – Software companies will sue me if I review their product

Fact : Write testimonials for services and software that you use.

No, No, they won’t sue you just for reviewing a software\product. People like their product getting noticed. So, if you are writing something good about the product they will be more happier. In cast you are writing something negative always remember healthy criticism is a good thing :).. Testimonials must be well written, genuine and specific in order to be useful for the service/product owner. Get at the essence of what’s great about the product or service and even add something unique. If you’ve written a review of the product/service on your blog, that can also get you a link from their press page.

#10 Myth – Contests? Giveaways? Oh no, that costs money!

Fact : Run a contest that may involve others dedicating to link back to your blog, it doesn’t have to be cash always.

Not everyone blogs only for money. Some people do it for fame BUT this can be tricky sometimes. Readers write blog posts and the first cut is based on which posts get the most traffic and presumably, links among other criteria. SO basically all you have to do is start a contest and let people write about it. In return as a gift\favor you can give them some tips, a back link to their blog or even write a guest post on their blog and share it with your readers.

Attract bloggers to write content for you. They’ll often cross: post it to their own blog with a link back to yours. Of course, you should be considerate and simply mention that this is ok, don’t ask them or require them to do it.

#11 Myth – I’m blogging and that’s all I will do

Fact : Review other blogs and offer support, a badge perhaps

We’ve done this with BIGLIST and it has resulted in over 64,000 inbound links. Focus on quality and be consistent. Also offer a version of the badge that does not include a link for those that want to display the “blog flare” but don’t or can’t link to it. You should include your logo on the badge for improved brand awareness whether there’s a link or not.

Build Links Successfully For Higher Search Rankings

The two arms of the Search Engine Optimization are content and link building. Link building assumes a very important role for gaining more traffic to the websites. However, there is a continuous strife between the web masters and the search engines regarding link building. This is because the search engines do not take artificial links into consideration and also devalue such sites. A good webmaster knows how and where to place link in his content so as to gain the links towards his or his clients website.

Here are certain pointers to take care of while building links for gaining more traffic to your website. First and foremost make sure that you provide a genuine link. A valuable link can attract viewers automatically and will also satisfy the search engines. The important factor for making links worthwhile is by posting the content that is relevant and valuable not only in terms of quantity but also quality. The more valuable your content, the better chances of having more links.

Link Building

A good SEO expert knows the significance of Link Anchor Text. It is always beneficial to have a varying link anchor text as it will make your link look more natural. A smart webmaster follows the technique of deep link. In this the SEO experts simply link to deep pages on the site rather than just the homepage. SEO Companies in India, USA, UK or any other place, are following the same quality criteria to achieve better search engine rankings.

One of the other ways is also to get links from the other sites based on the similar business. This is called linking with the relevant sites. The idea is fairly clear; the birds of same feather flock together.

Nevertheless, there are still plenty of options and solutions to avoid the clash between link building and search engines. How about sharing a few with everyone to improve the link building performance?
