Indian Woman Poisoned Her Family And Eloped With “So-Called” Facebook Lover

Rakhee, wife of West Delhi jeweller Sameer Swahney created an account on the social networking site Facebook before one and a half years.

Through Facebook she came in contact with a stranger Rahul Kumar. But he claimed to be an US-based NRI.

According to the Police, Rahul had sent her a friend request and she had accepted it. This further developed into friendship and later into dating. Finally they decided to marry. All this happened because Rahul claimed that he owned few hotels in America and had other wealthy businesses.

Since Rakhee was married, Rahul prepared a plan to help her get rid of her family. Initially she refused, but later she agreed to the plan. So one night she offered her family dinner that was laced with poisonous substance

Luckily, Sameer did not eat at home that night and went to bed. Her two children who ate the dinner fell unconscious. “Rakhee then made off with Rs. 5 lakh cash and some gold and diamond jewellery,” the official added.

After robbing her family, Rakhee went to Rahul’s place. He then took her to Bahadurgarh where they stayed in a hotel. “At the hotel, Rahul played the same trick on her and offered her dinner laced with sedatives. She fell unconscious and he fled with all the cash and jewellery,” said the police official.

Meanwhile, Sameer had lodged an FIR against her at the local police station. Police traced Rakhee’s mobile records and arrested her from the hotel.

DCP (West) V Ranganathan said that Rahul is involved in several cases of cheating earlier too. All cases against him have been lodged with South Delhi Police stations.

This is not the first time we are encountering such problems, earlier a mother killed her baby after Farmville Interruption. Online activities are not essential sometimes. Many people are obsessed with Facebook these days.

You can’t understand a guy/girl through online, it is quite difficult. Remove/avoid unwanted strangers from your friends list, even if it is me.

  1. Well, I agree a lot of scam champions use facebook as a tool to trap innocent people. we should stay away from accepting friendrequests from strangers and also try to try as limited stuff over social networks as possible.

    • FaceBook has revolutionized the technological advancement all over the world, but as rightly said, with great power comes great responsibilities, and with good technical advancement, there is always a good chance of negative impacts all around it. One really has to be extra careful while sharing stuff on FB and also consider twice before befriending anyone.

  3. Having the blogger profile on facebook is kinda tricky as well. Usually, I interact with only those people i know. Rest, who wants to befriend, remain their as it is. The problem is that many of your friends’ friends may have your data and whereabouts.

  5. Kumar – This Rahul guy needs to be locked up because he is dangerous. I agree that people are completely obsessed with Facebook these days and we really should be cautious because there are a lot of online predators out there. This is a sad story and I hope the children are okay too.

  6. The only advise for non-geeks, non-technophiles and the people who are new to social media: “Stay away from strangers and always OFFLINE VERIFY your friends that are online.”

  7. We can find these kind of things that can happen, but we can’t blame Facebook. It was introduced for good, but few people like Rahul were creating the dirt-spots and questioning its existence.
My condolences for Sameer and his kids(R.I.P)!

  10. Addiction is something someone is or is not naturally inclined to, games and social services like Facebook are a form of addiction, so is alcohol, or drugs, or gambling.
Some services exploit this natural inclination more or less, it’s widely known Farmville hires a behavioral psychologist for this exact reason.
It surely doesn’t feel right in some cases, but it’s also true that halting these services or preventing these behaviors would mean to put a stop to legitimate businesses, and in some case to progress itself.
    Who draws the line here?
