HellBound Bloggers (HBB) Now Hosted By KnownHost VPS

CONNECT WITH HBB ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Phew! HellBound Bloggers (HBB) experienced lots of trouble last night. DNS probagation and MySQL database issues were hectic, am glad this is over now. HBB is now hosted by KnownHost VPS, a powerful and advanced Virtual Private Server. All VPS’s come preinstalled with CentOS by default. They also provide full Managed support (supports all VPS packages with a control panel) and Free Backups (backup each VPS/Hybrid every other night at no cost).

We are using the pack VS3, which has 1024 MB RAM, 60GB RAID-10 Disk Space and 2500 GB Premium Bandwidth. I picked the Texas Datacenter, because I got reviews that it has powerful network with good optimum speed and reliability.

Switched From HostGator Shared Hosting to KnownHost VPS

On December 12th, 2010 HBB migrated to HostGator shared hosting from GoDaddy. We loved the new experience, it was really good until we start to get good traffic. If you are using or going to use HostGator shared hosting, then you should give a look at their Terms of Service first.

HBB’s HostGator account was terminated after our account faced multiple TOS/CPU violations and they ended the conversation with this sentence “is not allowed for Shared hosting anymore.” Two main reasons why our account faced termination :

7a.) Resource Usage
User may not:
1) Use 25% or more of system resources for longer then 90 seconds. There are numerous activities that could cause such problems; these include: CGI scripts, FTP, PHP, HTTP, etc.

and

8.) Bandwidth Usage
You are allocated a monthly bandwidth allowance. This allowance varies depending on the hosting package you purchase. Should your account pass the allocated amount we reserve the right to suspend the account until the start of the next allocation, suspend the account until more bandwidth is purchased at an additional fee, suspend the account until you upgrade to a higher level of package, terminate the account and/or charge you an additional fee for the overages.

I thought August 17th was just another day, but we got a mail from HostGator stating,

Hello,
Based on the continued ToS/CPU issues that this account is generating, combined with excessive load problems that the account is causing for other shared customers, we will no longer be able to host this account on our shared or reseller services. We have created a backup of the account for you to download which we have provided at the following location:

The file is 1.6 GB in size.

Please let us know when you have acquired the backup, as we are providing 48 hours prior to the suspension of the account. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Warm regards,

After many conversations, I managed to increase the deadline to few more hours. I don’t complain HostGator for banning us, I loved their support, but still they should do something or avoid something not to lose potential customers. I was stuck with poor internet connection, so the migrating, downloading, uploading processes were slow and bringing back HBB was tedious.

My apologies for :

  1. Not replying to your queries even though I was online yesterday, I was busy migrating and monitoring the process.
  2. For the downtime we faced, moving from a shared hosting to Virtual Private Server (VPS) was hectic. I literally lost my focus by the confusions I encountered.
  3. For trusting our previous host completely, they are good, but sometimes they don’t understand their customers position.
  4. For missing comments. I tried my best not to miss any comments during the downtime, if your comment is missing, kindly contact me.

  5. For regular guest authors, the login thing would not have worked properly, so sorry for the little disappointment.

P.S. I’m expanding the SEOPressor Giveaway to 23th before of the mess happened, you can participate if you haven’t.

Right now, I’m happy with the service KnownHost provides, though they don’t have the live chat support, they are still supportive, create a ticket and they manage it well.

HBB is completely up now, but you will still experience some issues, say 0.000KB kinda issues when you browse through. Thanks for facing the downtime and welcome to VPS powered HBB. ๐Ÿ™‚
