Phew! HellBound Bloggers (HBB) experienced lots of trouble last night. DNS probagation and MySQL database issues were hectic, am glad this is over now. HBB is now hosted by KnownHost VPS, a powerful and advanced Virtual Private Server. All VPS’s come preinstalled with CentOS by default. They also provide full Managed support (supports all VPS packages with a control panel) and Free Backups (backup each VPS/Hybrid every other night at no cost).
We are using the pack VS3, which has 1024 MB RAM, 60GB RAID-10 Disk Space and 2500 GB Premium Bandwidth. I picked the Texas Datacenter, because I got reviews that it has powerful network with good optimum speed and reliability.
Switched From HostGator Shared Hosting to KnownHost VPS
On December 12th, 2010 HBB migrated to HostGator shared hosting from GoDaddy. We loved the new experience, it was really good until we start to get good traffic. If you are using or going to use HostGator shared hosting, then you should give a look at their Terms of Service first.
HBB’s HostGator account was terminated after our account faced multiple TOS/CPU violations and they ended the conversation with this sentence “is not allowed for Shared hosting anymore.” Two main reasons why our account faced termination :
7a.) Resource Usage
User may not:
1) Use 25% or more of system resources for longer then 90 seconds. There are numerous activities that could cause such problems; these include: CGI scripts, FTP, PHP, HTTP, etc.
and
8.) Bandwidth Usage
You are allocated a monthly bandwidth allowance. This allowance varies depending on the hosting package you purchase. Should your account pass the allocated amount we reserve the right to suspend the account until the start of the next allocation, suspend the account until more bandwidth is purchased at an additional fee, suspend the account until you upgrade to a higher level of package, terminate the account and/or charge you an additional fee for the overages.
I thought August 17th was just another day, but we got a mail from HostGator stating,
Hello,
Based on the continued ToS/CPU issues that this account is generating, combined with excessive load problems that the account is causing for other shared customers, we will no longer be able to host this account on our shared or reseller services. We have created a backup of the account for you to download which we have provided at the following location:[link removed]
The file is 1.6 GB in size.
Please let us know when you have acquired the backup, as we are providing 48 hours prior to the suspension of the account. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Warm regards,[Name removed]

After many conversations, I managed to increase the deadline to few more hours. I don’t complain HostGator for banning us, I loved their support, but still they should do something or avoid something not to lose potential customers. I was stuck with poor internet connection, so the migrating, downloading, uploading processes were slow and bringing back HBB was tedious.
My apologies for :
- Not replying to your queries even though I was online yesterday, I was busy migrating and monitoring the process.
- For the downtime we faced, moving from a shared hosting to Virtual Private Server (VPS) was hectic. I literally lost my focus by the confusions I encountered.
- For trusting our previous host completely, they are good, but sometimes they don’t understand their customers position.
-
For missing comments. I tried my best not to miss any comments during the downtime, if your comment is missing, kindly contact me.
-
For regular guest authors, the login thing would not have worked properly, so sorry for the little disappointment.
P.S. I’m expanding the SEOPressor Giveaway to 23th before of the mess happened, you can participate if you haven’t.
Right now, I’m happy with the service KnownHost provides, though they don’t have the live chat support, they are still supportive, create a ticket and they manage it well.
HBB is completely up now, but you will still experience some issues, say 0.000KB kinda issues when you browse through. Thanks for facing the downtime and welcome to VPS powered HBB. π
Thank you, I'm always searching for information regarding VPS services.
congrats pradeep for brand new vps hosting, hope this will help your blog visitors a lot!
Congrats on the move.. this move also suggests your growth.. way to go…
Hey,,
Congrats..
But I think VPSlatch has better offers.. Do knownVPS offer chat supports and reseller panels….
Knownhost is a good choice, i will try too!
Awesome! HBB is growing rapidly and hosting on a VPS is a good choice. Only a VPS can support your kind of traffic! π
Congrats for yet another growth phase !!
KnownHost is really a good VPS provider. I used to have my site on KnownHost and I didn't face any problem with them.
Known host offers good support on here π Thank you so much for sharing your post on here π
Hi,
Could you please tell me which plan exactly you have taken for shared hosting and how much does it cost. I am also planning to go for a VPS hosting. You help would be appreciated.
Guru, I used the Baby Plan from HostGator shared hosting (http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml)
Hi,
I was asking about which plan you have registered at KnownHost VPS hosting. If you can provide some information about that plan I would be happy as I am also planning to go for it.
Hi Guru,
We used VS3 package and quite comfortable with it. You can check other packages here :

I guess its dec 11th of 2010 and not 2011 π
BTW congos for moving to VPS ! π
Fixed it. Thanks. π
Congrats for moving to virtual private server. KnownHost VPS has good reviews and most of the popular blogs are using their services. So, we will also enjoy HBB in more better and faster way.
why you didnt moved your hostgotar itself > shared host to vps, may i know the reason…….
KnownHost is cost effective mate. π
Hostgator is good for shared hosting however Knownhost is the best for VPS. I too made similar move two months back.
Congrats π
Knownhost is the best VPS you can get….
Hey Pradeep,
This story is now active. Read it here:
http://www.geeksyrup.com/tips/from-hostgator-to-knownhost-vps-hbb/
Thanks for that mate. Happy to share. π
First of all congrats for selecting a VPS package ! secondly i appreciate the care u give for ur readers bro π cheers:)
Your story is worth featuring. I'll be publishing it on my blog in a day or two!! I understand how confusing it can be, when things don't go the right way.
P.S: You told me some things that I did not know about HostGator earlier. Thanks.
Its nice you shifted to VPS. I am really surprised how a shared hosting was able to host HBB because it has a lot of traffic.
Congrats π
Good to see HBB back on my browser as soon as possible. Thanks for great work pradeep..
congraaaats bro! hurray…on moving to a VPS. keep it going!!! π π
I had knownhost vps a year or two ago in the texas network. I was very pleased with the service and speed. I used them for around 1 year. In that amount of time there was 1 outage that lasted 1 hour. So 1 hour of down time in 1 year was very impressive. The only reason I do not have a vps with them anymore is I really didn't need the extra power of vps, and I was kind of broke. If that weren't the case I would still be with them. Hope if works out well for you, it should.
Good Move mate, welcome to the Knownhost users bandwagon.. I am sure you will enjoy the service. The very problem with shared hosting that you experienced with HG is what I too experienced with my old host Arvixe and it is the very same reason why I shifted to Knownhost VPS…
Even I am using HG and faced many downtime, thinking to move from HG in next renewal.. ABut at one point I don't want to also just bcoz of there Customer Support..
Congrats for moving to VPS successfully π
Wow that's great ! Congrats and keep rocking !
So you downloaded 1.6gb of data and uploaded it later?
You should have gave the backup link to the support person from Known Host, as it's his job to migrate the data from your previous host.
Yea mate, seriously I appreciate KnownHost support, they are ready to do everything.
I downloaded the backup, since I need one on my side for emergency.
Thanks for sharing your experience. As I am myself thinking of migrating, these tiny tips would be really helpful. And good to see HBB up again with more vigour now.
Pradeep, I got impressed with your article…this shows the attachment with your readers…All the best…
Congrats on moving to VPS server. knownhost is pretty good and reliable when it comes to VPS hosting.
