Before some months, Facebook launched Facebook lite, a stripped-down version of its site meant to load faster and be more accessible in places without broadband connection. Many people thought this lite version would be Twitter killer.
It was specially created for people with slow Internet connections.
I was astonished to see such a status update from them. Facebook fan page status update says,
Thanks to everyone who tried out Facebook Lite. We’re no longer supporting it, but learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site. If you used Lite, you’ll now be taken to the main Facebook.com site.
What’s the reason? Any clues?
Even I have no clue. People say it showed only limited advertising and it was disconnected from accessing features like Facebook fan pages and some applications.
If you used Facebook Lite before, you will now be taken to the main Facebook.com site.
So which version you were using before? 🙂
Because there was no ad revenue.
Since i joined FB i never ever joined FB lite but i guess once i used just for checking purpose else i’m with main FB for last 2-3 years.
i never knew if facebook lite even existed!
Maybe twitter bought it off. lol Well, facebook is pretty successful anyhow with out it.
people will never be happy with a trimmed down version, even if their internet is slow, like mine is very slow at the moment, but still i would never appreciate if certain features that i want to use is restricted…
perhaps its best that facebook decided to stop the lite version, after all, how many people really have slow connections? poor souls like me who are still stuck with bsnl and slow internet will jump on higher speed connections when available… the future is for high speed internet connections where site loading won’t be an issue 🙂

Till now I used normal Facebook. But I gave a try to Facebook lite, but I din like it as it has a bad user interface.
It doesn't affect me in the slightest; I'm not currently using any FB, lol.
I think it's a safe bet to say it has something to do with revenue.
Probably not many were using the lite version. After all, the bandwidth is getting cheaper all over the world.

Facebook Lite was also lighter with regards to the ads on it. I guess that was the key reason that brought about its downfall!
This is bad news for people with slow connections . Facebook Lite was quite good
