According to a recent VeriSign report, the total number of domain names registered worldwide has recently crossed the 200 million mark. Also check Obsessed With Facebook Infographic.
This infographic just reveals the domain name registrations and the total number of websites on the Internet may be much higher than that.
Suppose 16 million blogs are currently hosted on WordPress.com, they are separate websites but since they are all part of one domain, they won’t have any effect on the overall VeriSign numbers.
The most popular Top Level Domains (TLDs), in terms of registrations, were .com, .de, .net, .uk, .org, .info, .cn, .nl, .eu and .ru in the same order.

If I am interpreting the graph right, this means 15 million new domains this year. At this rate there is no wonder that the IPv4 addresses will be exhausted and IP version 6 addresses are needed.
