Everyone knows about McAfee, leading antivirus and security software company. McAfee apparently launched its own URL Shortener McAf.ee.
Through TechCrunch, I came to know McAf.ee is using, and promotes, McAfee Labsβ real-time Global Threat Intelligence solution, which aims to protect users from new threats before they strike by using millions of sensors to gather real-time intelligence from host IP addresses, Internet domains, specific URLs, files, images, and email messages.
Below you can see the original URL and the Shorten URL as well. It works similar to other URL shorteners, but I think it scans the shorten URL.
Original URL : https://hellboundbloggers.com/2010/09/21/godaddy-wordpress-blogs-infected/
Shorten URL : http://mcaf.ee/047e6a
As of now, McAf.ee is in beta stage. It functions similar to other URL Shortening service, didn’t find anything interesting, though they say it is safe. π
Do you think this URL Shortener will be a different one? Please share your opinions below.
This is a good idea. Hopefully more people in the future use this feature. And help make the web a safer place π
We just updated the look and feel of the site – would love to have your feedback! http://mcaf.ee/about
There is always a risk associated with the shortened url, because we are unaware of the original url, it may be something spammy or undesired. As McAfee is a well known Security Application, its shortened urls shall be trustworthy.
is great mcafee is offering this service
This is nice, at least now we know that the short url posted is reliable and safe. They may not be so much on what we truly need but at least we know that what we click is a trusted site.
There is nothing as such in it. But the brand name Mcafee takes it to a different level & people would trust it a lot π
It is really one very interesting news for us. Thank you brother.
Mcfee is always secure to use……
I don’t exactly see how they backup their claim of making a safe sort url, why don’t you test it by making a sort url that leads to some hacking/cracking/adult site… am sure it will let you go their…
and the 4 letter shortner is not cool either, mcaf.ee is already long π
though, macafee is a trusted brand, and i have a paid version of macafe running at my end, but am not exactly sure how safe an url shortner can be anyway…
Nice stuff, but i like saf.li from bitdefender ….
yes it make sure that you are accessing secure content
Hi Pradeep,
This is definitely a smart way to market URL shorteners, with protection! Thanks for the review and heads up.
Thanks Thu Nguyen for your 1st comment here. π
And yes, many malicious URLs are shorten and passed, this one from McAfee is really a good one to protect! Cheers. π
wow.. now twitter link will be more safe…..
Very cool Pradeep. I think it is a very good idea to have trustworthy scanned links, and am not surprised at all that McAfee took this step.
