If you own a Magento shop and sell different products, you should know how important it is to send your customers emails either with orders information or just to remind about your shop and its promotions. But wait, I’m going ahead of myself! I’ll explain everything in this post.
Emails Magento Store Should Send
Here are the types of emails you need to send your customers regularly:
Transactional emails
These are emails sent once an order is placed in your store. Such emails contain specific information about the order (its number, amount, sometimes a list of items ordered). These emails don’t require your customers to sign up as opposed to other emails. Moreover, such emails are hardly ever treated as spam because they are requested by customers and contain important info. Magento can send such emails out of the box.
Abandoned cart reminders
They are sent if a customer added products to his shopping cart but didn’t complete the purchase. He might forget about this order and never come back. That’s why a Magento store sends reminders, sometimes with discount codes. Cart abandonment rate depends on the industry but in general it’s about 70%. Just imagine how many orders are lost! Cart reminders help decrease this rate and increase conversions.
Cart reminders in Magento can be configured programmatically or with the help of special extensions.
Promotions and special offers
People like discounts and coupon codes that’s why most shopping stores hold regular promotions. Emails are used to let people know about these promotions and to attract clients to the shop.
There are different promotions types: sales, N% discounts, buy X get Y free, etc. The most interesting offers are personalized ones. They are sent on special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Simple special offers can be created in default Magento; for more advanced types promotions special Magento extensions are used.
Newsletters
Newsletters are used to let your customers know what’s new in your store: products, blog posts, promotions can also be included here. Such emails are usually sent 1 per month or even more rarely. These emails are quite specific and not all your customers will be happy to get them.
There’s no need in installing a Magento extension for sending newsletters unless you need them to be highly customized or automatic.
Bonus: a few pro tips
In an ideal world each customer will sign up to your emails and will be happy to get each of them. But in a real world the things are different: there will be people who unsubscribe from your emails. Just take it as it is. But it’s even worse when people report you letters as spam. Such reports can influence your future emails delivery to other customers: these emails may end up in spam folders or may even be rejected.
Here are a few things you should make to avoid it:
- Send as much targeted emails as possible to those people who subscribed to them. Don’t use email lists you found somewhere, it’s very risky and it isn’t worth it.
- Add the unsubscribe link to your emails, it will let to decrease the number of spam flags as people usually become frustrated if they can’t find a way to unsubscribe and as a result can report your email.
- Use reliable email providers and configure SMTP settings. This will ensure more stable delivery of your emails.
- Check your spam score. You can find a special tool in this article.
So I’ve listed a few steps you should complete for better communication with your current and potential customers as well as types of this communication. I hope this info was useful for you and it will help you increase customers loyalty and sales.
