Written by in Dropbox, Featured - Print This Post

Earlier we shared some uses of Dropbox every blogger should know, now here is the continuation of that, part 2! If you are a Dropbox freak, you would have read about the issues faced by Dropbox earlier, but you know, accidents do happen. You can check some of the creative and good uses of Dropbox you can try for productivity.

1. Test your Website Locally

Dropbox: Test Website Locally

If you can move your local development folder to the Dropbox public folder, then you need not worry about uploading files to an FTP server since Dropbox has the ability to do that for you. Now you can easily test your websites on a local computer just like the real environment. This technique, unfortunately, not possible for testing PHP and other non-HTML sites.

2. Use Dropbox Mobile App for Photo Blogging

Dropbox Apps are now available for iPhone, iPad, Android, and Blackberry, someone of my friends tried their hands on these apps, and they got addicted quickly. This mobile client not only lets you browse and view images, read documents, and play music in your Dropbox, but you can also use this for taking and storing cameraphone pics directly to the cloud.

If you sync this service with Image hosting sites like Flickr, then you can make Photo Blogging really entertaining.

3. Create A Portfolio

That will be great right? Surprisingly you don’t need any third party service for doing this, using Dropbox alone you can achieve. You can easily develop a portfolio or gallery by this. Simply right click the folder containing the photos and click Dropbox > Get shareable link.

The gallery of photos will be opened in the Dropbox web interface, displaying the images as a grid of thumbnails.

If you are not comfortable with Dropbox’s default design, you can try Views.fm for alternate design.

4. Share Your Works With Fellow Bloggers

Sharing Your Work

Dropbox makes it easy for developers and bloggers to share their works, like some demo files, PSD stuffs, screenshots and lot of things. You can go to Select Dropbox > Share This Folder. This will send you to the sharing page on the Dropbox website, where you can enter the email of the recipient.

5. Allow Visitors To Upload Files To Your Dropbox Folder

Suppose if you are hiring some authors or you enabled guest blogging on your blog, then the ability for them to upload some files for you would be tedious. With the help of Dropbox, you can make this easy. You can also add a password field so that spammers can’t upload files to your Dropbox account.

By default, Dropbox won’t let others to upload files on your Dropbox account, but yes, we do have some hacks. You can check how it works here.

You can create this simple browser uploader for Dropbox which will allow anyone to upload files to a particular folder in your Dropbox account. All you need is a web server that supports php. You can try DROPitTOme if you are not comfortable with coding.
