Just as we started talking about Sharp’s Android-Based Tablets, RIM unveiled BlackBerry “PlayBook” tablet. I think I should create a separate category for ‘tablets’.
RIM (Research In Motion), the maker of BlackBerry phones is going to hit the tablet marker this time. RIM announced the 7-inch BlackBerry PlayBook. It has features like dual high-definition cameras and also boasts support from corporate IT departments.
PlayBook has good gaming and applications features. This tablet will be running the BlackBerry Tablet OS which was developed by QNX. This platform will enable OpenGL, POSIX, Flash content via Flash 10.1 as well as HTML 5 web standards support.
Now RIM has to face biggies like HP Slate, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Sharp and last but not least, Apple iPad. Clash of the titans!

Blackberry Playbook tablet faced an uphill battle on the way to store shelves. Hardly an iPad Killer and not even close to Samsung Galaxy Tab. Analysts reported that Apple iPad market share in 2011 will remain over 65%.
I think this tab can lead the market due to its HD camera quality, good processing speed and HDMI Output.
Blackberry Playbook looks really sleek and cool. But will it really kill iPad? I doubt so…
Blackberry Playbook is getting popular, but I think it is no match for the iPAD2. And also with Apple, you can be sure you will get a new version of the iPad every year. Apple's Marketing Research beats everyone.
I just had a look at the memory; whooping 1GB. But, what’s the price? It comes in a price range of 600-700$, it’s worth buying. Otherwise a laptop would be preferable i guess.

It looks great but do you really think it will be an iPad killer? The iPad/iPod brand is very strong, I don’t think it can be toppled that easily!
As much I would like it to be a iPad-killer, I doubt it will ever be one.

It looks promising, but why do every manufacturer insists on making it’s own OS? Why can’t the use Android or Linux (if they are worried about big G.) for crying out loud?

I’m not a fan of blackberry.But, I might have to check this out. I’m sure one of my friends will have it soon enough.
The only thing i find interesting about RIMs tablet is the fact that it’s running a new-ish operating system. Not, iOS, not linux, not Windows XP/vista/7. It seems like RIM is aiming this at the business world as they have with BB phones. I guess we’ll see how things go this holiday season.
Even otherwise, iPad will die anyhow. Without a multi tasking O/S and Flash support who will buy it. At the moment those who bought iPad are those who want to show off 🙂 It can never be as successful as iPhone, iPod brands from Apple.
As for BB playbook, one needs to wait and watch how great is their new OS that came via acquisition. Android, according to me, is still the future of tablets/smartphone.
Do agree with you Ajith. Flash support is something that is missing in it. Hope they introduce it. And yes Android is the future.
