Google Instant – Save 2-5 Seconds Per Search

Written by in Google - Print This Post

Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. You get to the right content much faster than before because you don’t have to finish typing your full search term, or even press “search.”

Excerpts from Google Instant,

“We are pushing the limits of our technology and infrastructure to help you get better search results, faster. Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.”

Benefits of Google Instant :

  • Faster Searches: By predicting your search and showing results before you finish typing, Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search.
  • Smarter Predictions:The predicted text is shown in grey color directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.
  • Instant Results: Start typing and results appear right before your eyes.

Fact : If everyone uses Google Instant globally, they estimate this will save more than 3.5 billion seconds a day. That’s 11 hours saved every second.

Will this new feature in Google click!? Please share your opinions as comments below!

It’s pretty cool. I kind of like it, and don’t think it will hurt SEO at all. It should in fact help those that are good with long tail keywords and phrases. What do you think?

  2. I am not a big fan of it :) I like the normal search submit way… However, I like the normal Google suggest before I submit

  3. aatif says:

normal suggestions before submit is great .

  4. This is no big deal. Long Zheng invented the Instant search and put it up on his website at –> http://www.istartedsomething.com/livesearch/

This was made using Bing’s API and AJAX and works best with Modern browsers.

  5. Really cool. Now users can save a lot of time in typing the keywords in Google. Thanks for sharing this info.

  6. This probably means that the big companies who already rank for single, 2 word keywords etc. get even more traffic while those that actually rank for the actual keywords or keyphrase get less.

    Example: search for ‘dog food’.

While typing “dog” I already got the result:
Dogs – Dog Information – Dog Breeds, Pictures and Reviews for over …
Search Dogs and Puppies by breed with information on 700+ Dog Breeds at GreatDogSite.com. Directory of Breeders and Shelters with Dogs and Puppies for Sale.

If these guys would have ‘food’ mixed in their description, lots of people searching for dog food would already stopped there and check this resource before even going to ‘dog food’ results.

  7. No need to press Search button is a good move. We will be searching websites like we search domain names in Ajax domain tools! It will be nice, I guess.

  8. [...] is fulfilled now. I found Google Instant very useful and also fellow blogger Pradeep Kumar wrote on his blog that Google Instant is capable of saving 11 hours every second. I wonder why few folks didn’t [...]

  16. Icechen1 says:

Google Instant is great for end-users, but will make SEO marketers rethink their strategy.

  17. Ryan says:

This new technology brings to light a lot of interesting questions such as:

How will the technology affect longtail searches…will people scan the results and shorten their search terms?

Will it increase or decrease market share for Google?

Will it have any major effects on SEO for webmasters to take note of?

  18. Yes, it save time, and this is the age of short keywords. I dont think it will affect SEO that much, SEO know how to go about things.

  19. Google Instant makes it easier and faster for me to browse because it has the right words I need when searching. It just takes a little getting used to for others :)

  20. techperk says:

  23. Ipod Touch 4 says:

well , its a matter of time . you need to get used to it . thats it . but is making us lazy , having not to type more characters
