HOW TO: Remove Failed Installation Files In Windows
Written by S.Pradeep Kumar in Tutorials - Print This Post
Consider, you are installing an application in your PC and in the middle, due to some reasons, the installation failed. Some of the application files are copied to your PC and of course, Windows by default provides no option to remove a partial installation. So those files still remains in your PC.
Don’t worry, there is a solution from Microsoft itself. Windows Installer CleanUp Utility can remove any installation files that were copied to your computer. It removes installation information for programs that were installed by using Windows Installer. This CleanUp Utility is available for free download.
Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. It will remove the installation files so that you can again start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
After removing the installation files, it will allow you to re-start the program’s installer and you can proceed with the installation.
Prevention is better than Cure
You can create a restore point in Windows before installing any application. If the installation failed in mid-stream, you can easily restore your PC using System Restore. It restores and makes your computer look as it was before the installation.

Yeah, good point. But there are also some software that would also delete the installer files if the installation fails. But if the one that you like don’t have it, there is always a system restore.
