In this article I’m going to mention the steps for creating icons without using any kind of third-party software. We are going to do this with the help of MS Paint alone. Hope you enjoy the tutorial. If you like it, please bookmark and Tweet it! ;)

How To Create Icons Without Any Software?

Create IconsIt’s an old but nice way to create icons in mspaint

1. Open MS Paint.
2. Set the attributes to 48 or 32 or 24 or 16 to be realistic.
3. Draw anything you wish for.
4. Save them as .ico file. It should have .ico extension.

Some Tips To Make It More Better

To be realistic it is very hard to draw something really nice so if you follow the advice given here you can create awesome icons.

1. Choose the background color same as your folder background color.
2. Try to put some text to make more appealing.
3. Open text box,and put some nice looking character from character map and try to use the best size available.
4. Now add some colors to your text.

That’s all. Simple huh? :D

    oh, i think this the first post ppl didnt comment. but instead of using paint there are many alternatives came now. try Photoshop plugins. or there is another application like png to ico converter. its very simple just drag and drop. for vista the ico size should be 256 for maximum quality.
    and when you sane it as ico it wont accept from windows. and you cannot change the folder icons. any way iam using a premium software to get it in high quality :D
